Arrest Records in Floyd County
The Floyd County Sheriff is the main local arresting agency. Virginia State Police troopers assigned through Division 6 Salem may also make arrests, and specialized state officers can act within their own authority. The Town of Floyd has no separate police department, daily arrest list, or municipal booking system. An incident inside town limits therefore usually points back to the Floyd County Sheriff unless a state officer made the arrest.
No single file contains the full Floyd County arrest trail. A deputy or trooper writes the incident and arrest report. New River Valley Regional Jail, or NRVRJ, records intake when detention is ordered. A magistrate makes the initial probable-cause and release decision. A person detained after a Floyd County arrest generally enters NRVRJ at 108 Baker Road in Dublin, not a county jail in the Town of Floyd. The regional jail controls its own current custody information.

Floyd County Arrest Lookups
Begin with the source closest to the event. Use an exact name and any known date, location, report number, or case number. A broad request for every record called “criminal history” can reach the wrong custodian and produce a less useful response.
- Search or call NRVRJ for current custody and recent booking information. A missing result can reflect release, transfer, a name mismatch, a delayed entry, or a summons with no jail intake.
- Contact the Floyd County Sheriff by phone, mail, fax, email, or at the Room 206 counter for a deputy-created arrest or incident report. Send a VSP-created incident to Virginia State Police instead.
- Search OCIS 2.0 and Floyd General District Court for the filed case. Follow an indicted or certified felony into Floyd Circuit Court, where it may have a different case number.

When a Floyd County Arrest Is Missing
An absent NRVRJ result does not prove that no Floyd County arrest occurred. The person may have been released, transferred, cited by summons, listed under a different spelling, or not yet entered into the current system. Search Floyd General District Court by name and allow for processing time. If the case is a felony, also check Circuit Court because the case may move from Room 208 to Room 200 under a new number.
Call the arresting agency when the court trail is also blank. Floyd County Sheriff records belong with Room 206, while a trooper report belongs with VSP Division 6 or the VSP FOIA channel. Describe an existing record with a date or time range, location, agency, report number if known, record type, and the parts sought. Say whether inspection, paper copies, or an electronic format will work. Floyd County may ask for the requester's name and legal address. It may charge actual search, access, duplication, and supply costs, may require advance payment, and will provide an estimate on request.
Under the county's Virginia FOIA procedures, the agency responds within five working days by producing the record, citing a basis to withhold or redact it, stating that it does not exist, or invoking seven more working days when timely response is impracticable. How Floyd County Arrest Data Flows

A dismissed Floyd County charge can remain in an agency or booking system until retention rules, expungement, or sealing changes public access. Traditional expungement under §19.2-392.2 may apply to an acquittal, nolle prosequi, or qualifying dismissal.
